And ya know, there’s different ways to use them strainers. Some folks just put ’em in the teapot while the tea’s steppin’, that’s right, they use it like a little basket for the leaves. And then, when the tea’s ready, they just pour it right out, no mess, no fuss. I’ve seen folks do it with all kinds of teas—green tea, black tea, even that fancy Oolong. You can steep ’em more than once too, ‘specially them Oolongs. Tea just gets better the second time around, I reckon. But you gotta get the right strainer if you want it to steep good.
What about steeping times? Well, that depends on what kind of tea you’re usin’. For them real delicate teas like green or white tea, you ain’t gotta leave it in too long, or it’ll get bitter. But a good black tea, or that Pu-erh tea, well, you can steep it a few times, and it still tastes mighty fine. Them loose leaves get the flavor out just right, and you ain’t drinkin’ no watered-down tea either. That’s the beauty of a good strainer, it helps the tea do its thing without makin’ a mess.
Strainers vs. Infusers: Now, some folks get confused between a strainer and an infuser, but I ain’t confused one bit. An infuser is like a little basket that holds the tea leaves while the water steeps it. And the strainer, well, that’s what you use after the tea’s ready to make sure them leaves don’t float into yer cup. You could use an infuser in your teapot, and you won’t need a strainer at all. But if yer just steeping a cup, you might need both, depending on how fancy you’re feelin’.
And don’t get me started on how you gotta clean them strainers. I know, it’s not the most fun job, but it ain’t that bad. Some folks use citric acid to help clean ’em, make ’em all sparkly and fresh again. I just give mine a good rinse, and it works fine. Keepin’ it simple, like I always do.
At the end of the day, it don’t matter where yer from or how fancy ya are, a good tea strainer is worth havin’. Whether yer sittin’ on the porch watchin’ the world go by or in yer cozy kitchen, a nice hot cup of tea, made just right, can make everything feel better.
