Well, look at here, talkin’ ’bout stitchin’ tea towels. Now, ain’t that somethin’? My old hands ain’t what they used to be, but I tell ya, a good tea towel is a handy thing to have around. And if you can put some fancy stitches on it, well, that’s just a bonus.
Now, what’s all this about “patterns” and such? I reckon you just pick a spot and start stitchin’. But if you’re one for them patterns, I suppose there’s books and such you can look at. They say there’s books with a hundred and one designs. Can you believe that? A hundred and one! I barely know one or two.
- Make a knot at the end of your thread. Don’t want it pullin’ through, you know.
- Start from the back, poke that needle up.
- Make a little X. That’s the cross stitch they talk about.
Sally Cinnamon, whoever she is, seems to have a bunch of ideas. Pinterest, they call it. Seems like everyone’s pinnerin’ this and pinnerin’ that nowadays. But if she’s got ideas for stitchin’ tea towels, I reckon she can’t be all bad.
They sell these patterns too, don’t ya know. Wayfair, they say. Never been to one of them Wayfair stores, but if they’re sellin’ tea towel patterns, they must be doin’ alright. You can even get ’em online, whatever that means. Kids these days, always on their computers.
And talk about choices! You got your plain ones, your fancy ones, your ones with pictures. They say you can even get ’em custom made. Imagine that! Someone stitchin’ up a tea towel just the way you want it. Costs a pretty penny, I bet.
Now, about that stitchin’. They say you gotta count threads and such. Two threads this way, two threads that way. Makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it. I always just eyeballed it. But if you want it to look fancy, I suppose you gotta follow the rules.
And the thread? They say two strands is best. But you can use more or less, dependin’ on how you want it to look. Thick or thin, it’s all up to you. Me? I just use whatever I got on hand. No use wastin’ good thread.
To check the count of the fabric, they say. Countin’ again. Seems like a lot of countin’ for a simple tea towel. But I guess it matters if you’re tryin’ to follow them patterns.
And vintage ones too! They say old things are worth somethin’. Got a bunch of old tea towels myself. Maybe I should sell ’em. Make a bit of extra cash.
So, there you have it. My two cents on stitchin’ tea towels. Ain’t no expert, but I know a thing or two. Now, where’d I put my needle and thread?
