Well, lookie here, I got this thing, what do you call it? A daffodil tea cup and saucer. Fancy, huh? Never thought I’d have somethin’ like this. You know, back in the day, we just drank outta whatever we had. Tin cups, mostly. But this here, this is somethin’ else. Got flowers all over it. Pretty yeller ones. Daffodils, they say.
So, where’d I get it? Don’t rightly remember. Maybe it was a gift. People give you things sometimes, things you don’t need or ain’t used to. But this one, it caught my eye. All bright and cheery. Makes me think of spring, you know, when the world ain’t all gray and muddy.
- It’s got a handle, this cup does. Small, but you can get a finger or two in there. Keeps you from burnin’ yourself. Smart, I tell ya. These fancy folks, they think of everything.
The saucer, well, it’s just a little plate for the cup. Don’t know why you need it, but it looks nice. Keeps the drips off the table, I guess. My table ain’t much to look at, but it’s sturdy. Seen a lot of spills in its day.
I ain’t used it much, this cup and saucer. Mostly just look at it. Sit it on the shelf where the sun catches it. Shines pretty, it does. Sometimes I think about havin’ a real tea party. With little cakes and such. But then I remember I ain’t got no one to invite. Just me and the cat, and he ain’t much for tea.
They say these things are worth money, these fancy cups. Folks collect ’em, put ’em in glass cases. Can you believe that? Spendin’ good money on somethin’ you can’t even use. Guess everyone’s got their hobbies. Mine’s knittin’. Made a nice scarf last winter. Kept me warm.
- This here cup, it’s delicate. Thin porcelain, they call it. You can see the light through it if you hold it up. Makes me nervous, holdin’ it. Don’t wanna drop it. Wouldn’t be the first time I broke somethin’ nice. Got clumsy hands, I do.
You know, I heard tell of a cup once, sold for millions. Millions! Can you imagine? What in the world would you do with a cup that cost that much? Wouldn’t dare drink outta it, that’s for sure. Just put it on a velvet pillow and stare at it all day.
This daffodil cup ain’t worth millions, I reckon. But it’s pretty. And it’s mine. Got it sittin’ right there on the shelf. Reminds me of sunshine, even when it’s cloudy outside. Maybe I’ll make myself a cup of tea today. Use the good cup, for once. Why not? Life’s too short to leave the good china in the cupboard.
And you know what? I might even invite the cat. He might not drink the tea, but he’ll sit with me. And sometimes, that’s all you need. A bit of sunshine, a warm cup, and a furry friend. Even if he sheds all over the good tablecloth.
So there you have it. My thoughts on this daffodil tea cup and saucer. It’s just a cup, really. But it’s more than that, too. It’s a little bit of pretty in a world that ain’t always pretty. And sometimes, that’s enough. Makes you smile, just lookin’ at it. And that’s worth somethin’, don’t you think?
