Well, lemme tell ya ’bout them delft tea cups. Ain’t nothin’ fancy like them highfalutin words you city folks use. It’s just cups, ya see? But they got them pretty blue pictures on ’em. My grandma had some, used to keep ’em in that cabinet with the glass doors.
Now, I hear tell these cups come from some place called Delft, over in Holland. Never been there myself, but they say it’s a place where they make this kinda stuff. All blue and white, like the sky on a real clear day. Them cups, they got flowers and windmills and such painted on ’em. Real pretty, if ya ask me.
- Some folks, they collect these things. Like stamps or coins, I guess. They pay good money for ’em too. I seen one go for a whole bunch, more than I make in a year pickin’ beans. Don’t make no sense to me, spendin’ all that money on a cup you ain’t gonna drink outta. But hey, to each their own, right?
But these ain’t just any cups, you know. They got history. Been around longer than me, longer than my grandma even. Folks say they started makin’ ’em way back when, copyin’ them fancy cups from China. Them Chinese, they always makin’ good stuff. But these Dutch folks, they did a pretty good job too.
If you want one of them cups, ya can find ’em all over. I seen ’em in them fancy stores and online too. You know, that interweb thing. My grandson showed me. You can buy anything on there. Even cups.
- And they got all kinds too. Little ones for tea, big ones for coffee. Or just for lookin’ at, I guess. Some got handles, some don’t. Some got fancy shapes, some is just plain round. But they all got that blue and white paint, that’s how ya know it’s a Delft.
Now, I heard tell some of these cups are real old, like hundreds of years. Imagine that! Makin’ a cup and it lasts that long. Must be good stuff they used. Not like them plastic things they got now, break if ya look at ’em funny.
They say these cups are worth somethin’ too. If you got a real old one, you might be sittin’ on a gold mine, or a blue and white mine, I guess. But I wouldn’t know about that. I just like lookin’ at ’em. Reminds me of the old days, when things was simpler.
So, if you like pretty things, and you like cups, maybe you should get yourself a delft tea cup. Or a whole set. Put ’em in a cabinet with glass doors, like my grandma. Show ’em off to your friends. Tell ’em about Delft and Holland and all that. They’ll be impressed, I bet.
But don’t go spendin’ all your money on ’em, now. A cup’s just a cup, after all. You can’t eat it, can’t wear it. Just gotta look at it. But sometimes, lookin’ at somethin’ pretty is enough.
Anyway, that’s all I gotta say about them delft tea cups. Pretty things, with a history. If you like ’em, get one. If you don’t, well, that’s your business. Me, I like ’em. Reminds me of my grandma.
