Okay, so I decided to try my hand at painting a teacup, inspired by Barbara Mock’s style. I’ve always loved her soft, romantic look, you know? So, I thought, why not give it a shot? I went and grabbed an old, plain white teacup from my cupboard – figured it was the perfect blank canvas.

Getting Started
First things first, I washed the teacup really well with soap and water. Gotta make sure there’s no dust or grease or anything that could mess up the paint. Then I dried it super carefully with a soft cloth.
The Painting Process
- I sketched out a really rough design on the teacup with a pencil. Just some basic flower shapes, nothing too fancy. I wanted to keep it loose and free, like Barbara Mock’s style.
- Then, I mixed my acrylic paints. I went for some soft pinks, yellows, and a bit of lavender. Oh, and some greens for the leaves, of course! I added a tiny bit of water to make them flow a little easier.
- I started with the lighter colors, kind of like a base coat. I used a small, round brush and just dabbed the paint on, not worrying too much about perfect lines. I tried use soft color for painting.
- After the base coat, I started to added.I slowly built up the colors, adding darker shades here and there to give the flowers some depth. I used a slightly smaller brush for this, to get a bit more detail.
- Leaves came next! I used a couple of different shades of green, again layering them to make them look a little more realistic… or at least, as realistic as I could get them!
Finishing Touches
Once I was happy with the painting, I let it dry completely. This took a while, like overnight. Patience is key, my friends! after the painting totally dry.I sprayed on a clear sealant – this is important to protect the paint and make it (somewhat) washable. I did a couple of coats, letting it dry in between.
And there you have it! My very own, somewhat shaky, attempt at a Barbara Mock-style teacup. It’s definitely not perfect, but hey, I had fun, and that’s what matters, right? I might even use it for my morning tea… carefully, of course!
