Okay, so the other day I was thinking, I really wanna get into this whole “kung fu tea” thing. I mean, it sounds cool, right? “Kung fu” and “tea” – what’s not to like? So, I started to do some digging, you know, just to figure out how to even do it. Turns out, it’s not just about the tea, it’s like a whole ritual.
First, I gathered all the stuff. I already had a teapot and some cups, so that was a start. I read somewhere that you’re supposed to have special cups for this, but I just used what I had. Then, I picked out some tea leaves. I had some oolong tea lying around, so I decided to use that.
Next, I heated up some water. Now, I saw online that the temperature is super important. Too hot, and you’ll burn the leaves. Too cold, and it won’t brew right. I didn’t have a thermometer, so I just kind of guessed. I waited for the water to boil, and then let it cool down for a bit.
Then came the brewing part. I put the tea leaves in the teapot and poured in the hot water. I remembered reading something about brewing it for a short time, so I only let it sit for like 30 seconds. Then I poured the tea into my cup.
- First pour: tasted kind of weak, honestly. I guess I didn’t use enough leaves or the water wasn’t hot enough.
- Second pour: I added more leaves and made sure the water was hotter. This time, it was better. I could actually taste the tea.
- Third pour: I felt like I was getting the hang of it. I brewed it for a little longer, and the flavor was even stronger.
I also tried to do the whole bowing thing. You know, where the women are supposed to put their palms together and bow? I did that. Not sure if I did it right, but it felt kind of cool. I made a show of it when I poured for a friend, and they enjoyed the show, and they gave me a thanks for pouring. It was a nice moment.
My Takeaway
So, that’s my first attempt at kung fu tea. It was a fun experiment, and I think I’ll keep doing it. It’s a nice way to slow down and enjoy a cup of tea. Plus, it just feels fancy, you know? I need to get some proper cups though. And maybe a thermometer.
Anyway, it is kind of a hassle to set up everything and get the water temperature and brewing times just right. I’m still trying to figure that part out. There are a lot of factors to balance, and I am sure I can do better.
