So, I’ve been looking into getting some nice Japanese tea cups, you know, the ones with lids. Figured it would be a neat way to enjoy my tea, keep it warm, and all that. Here’s how it went down.
First, I started digging around online to see what was out there. I found a bunch of different styles and wasn’t sure what I wanted. I figured out that there’s a difference between “Yunomi” cups, which are taller, and “Chawan” bowls for matcha. I was mostly interested in Yunomi cups. I wanted some simple, elegant ones with lids, of course.
I spent hours scrolling through websites that people say was the best, but it got a little overwhelming. They had some really fancy handcrafted ones, but they were way out of my price range. I mean, I like tea, but I’m not a millionaire!
Then, I read that some people like the lids to keep the tea from cooling down too fast. Apparently, the steam hits the lid, turns back into water, and drips back into the cup. Makes sense, I guess. Keep the tea hot, keeps the flavor in.
Finally, I decided to just go for it. I picked out a couple of reasonably priced Yunomi cups with simple, matching lids. They looked pretty decent in the pictures, and the reviews weren’t terrible. I paid for it and waited for delivery.
- Ordered the cups.
- Received the package a few days later.
- Unboxed them carefully.
- Checked them out, they were just like the pictures.
- Washed the cups and lids.
- Brewed some green tea.
- Poured the tea into one of the cups.
- Put the lid on.
I took a sip, and you know what? It was pretty good! The tea stayed warm for a good while, and it felt kind of fancy drinking from a nice cup with a lid. The lid also help me keep some of the tea from sloshing around and staining clothes. Mission accomplished!
I used the cups for a week and I’m really enjoying it. So, if you’re thinking about getting some Japanese tea cups with lids, I say go for it. Just do a little research, figure out what style you like, and don’t spend a fortune. Happy sipping!
