Hey everyone, I’m back again with another fun little project. So, I’ve been wanting to add a bit more green to my place, and I thought, why not get creative with the planters? I remembered seeing these adorable teacup planters online, and I just knew I had to make my own. I’m calling them “large tea cup planters”.
First things first, I needed some big teacups. I checked out a couple of thrift stores and found some really cool ones. They weren’t exactly what you’d call “teacups” – more like oversized mugs, but they had that classic teacup shape, and I loved them. Plus, they were super cheap, which is always a bonus.
Next, I went to a garden center to grab some supplies. I got some potting soil, a few small plants that I thought would look nice in the teacups, and some decorative stones. Oh, and I also picked up some ceramic drill bits. This was important because I needed to make some drainage holes in the bottom of the teacups. I’ve got to say, drilling those holes was a bit nerve-wracking! I was so scared of cracking the cups, but I took it slow, kept the drill bit cool, and it worked out perfectly. Each cup got a few holes in the bottom, and I was ready to start planting.
- Find large teacups
- Gather supplies:
- potting soil
- small plants
- decorative stones
- ceramic drill bits
- Drill drainage holes
- Plant and decorate
I filled each teacup with some potting soil, carefully planted my little green friends, and then added some of those decorative stones on top. I thought the stones added a nice touch, and they also help keep the soil in place when I water the plants.
And that’s it! My large tea cup planters were done. I put them around my house, on windowsills, shelves, and even on my little balcony. They look so charming and unique, and they really brighten up the space. Plus, it’s so satisfying to know that I made them myself. They weren’t hard to do at all, and I’d definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for a fun and easy way to add some personality to your home decor.
Some Extra Thoughts
I found some teacups that were around 7.5 inches. I guess that’s a pretty standard size for these kinds of planters. Also, the ones I saw online with the purple lavender basket design were really beautiful, but I couldn’t find any like that at the thrift store. Maybe I’ll keep an eye out for them. I did see some online that were going for like $15.99, $22.99, and even up to $44.00! That’s way more than I spent on mine, that’s for sure. But hey, if you’re not into the whole DIY thing, those could be a good option, I guess. Anyway, I’m super happy with how mine turned out!
Anyway, that’s my little teacup planter adventure. Hope you enjoyed it! Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever tried making these. I’d love to see your creations!
