Okay, so I’ve been seeing these super cute tea cup candles all over Pinterest and Instagram, and I just had to try making my own. Seriously, they looked so easy and elegant, perfect for a little cozy corner or even as a handmade gift. I figured, “Why not give it a shot?”

First things first, I gathered my supplies. This was probably the most fun part, besides actually seeing the finished product. I hit up a local thrift store and found a bunch of adorable, mismatched tea cups and saucers. Score! You can also use any old tea cups you have lying around, of course. Then I picked up some soy wax flakes, wicks, and wick stickers from a craft store. Oh, and essential oils! I went with lavender and vanilla because, well, who doesn’t love those scents?
The Messy (But Fun) Part
- I started by sticking the wick stickers to the bottom of the wicks. This is super important so the wick stays put in the middle of the cup.
- Then, I carefully centered the wicks inside each tea cup.
- Next up, melting the wax! I used a double boiler – basically, a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water. You don’t want to overheat the wax, so keep an eye on it. I poured the soy wax flakes into the bowl and stirred occasionally until they were completely melted. It turned into this beautiful, clear liquid.
- Once the wax was melted, I took it off the heat and added in my essential oils. I probably went a little overboard, but hey, I wanted them to be nice and fragrant!
- Now for the slightly tricky part: pouring the wax into the tea cups. I did this slowly and steadily to avoid any spills or air bubbles. I held them to make sure it is in place.
- I fill it almost to the top.
Waiting Is the Hardest Part
And then…I waited. It takes a few hours for the wax to completely solidify. I placed them to a flat and cool place. This was the hardest part, honestly! I was so excited to see how they turned out.
Finally, after what felt like forever, the wax was hard! I trimmed the wicks down to about a quarter of an inch, and that was it! My very own tea cup candles. They looked so charming, and they smelled amazing. I was pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie. Now all I have to do and plan is light it up and enjoy.
Seriously, if you’re looking for a fun, easy, and rewarding craft project, this is it. Plus, you end up with something beautiful and useful. It’s a win-win!
