You know, I heard talk ’bout this thing called Imari tea cup. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Well, I got to lookin’ into it, and let me tell ya, it ain’t just any old cup. These cups, they come from a place called Japan. Long ways away. And they ain’t cheap neither!
What’s the Big Deal About These Imari Tea Cups?
So, these Imari tea cups, they’re made of that porcelain stuff. Real delicate, you gotta be careful with ’em. My old hands, they ain’t as steady as they used to be, so I’d probably break one in a heartbeat. But they sure are pretty to look at. All sorts of colors and designs. Flowers and birds and what have you.

Now, if you’re thinkin’ of gettin’ yourself one of these Imari tea cup, you better have some money saved up. I seen some prices that’d make your eyes pop out! Hundreds of dollars! For one cup! Can you imagine? I could buy a whole lot of other things with that kind of money.
They’re not like our regular tea cups, that are simple and plain. These Imari tea cup, they got designs painted on ’em. Fancy designs. Gold and blue and red, all sorts of colors. Makes ’em look real special, I guess.
How Much Do These Cups Cost?
Like I said, these ain’t your everyday cups. They cost a pretty penny. I saw some for a hundred bucks, some for a thousand! Can you believe it? One of them, it was over six thousand dollars. I almost choked on my tea when I saw that!
- $100 for a cup? That’s more than my whole week groceries!
- $1,000? I could get a new set of teeth for that!
- And $6,000? Lord have mercy, that’s a whole car!
I guess if you got the money, and you like that sort of thing, then go ahead. But me? I’ll stick to my regular old mug. It might not be fancy, but it holds my tea just fine.
These Imari tea cup are called “yunomi” in Japanese. That just means somethin’ for drinkin’ hot water. They’re kinda small, though. Smaller than what we’re used to here. You’d probably need to fill it up a few times to get your fill.
They were made for fancy high tea, I think. High tea is somethin’ for the rich folks, ain’t it? I reckon these Imari tea cup were meant for them, not for folks like us. But it’s still interestin’ to learn about ’em, ain’t it?

Well, if you’re set on gettin’ one, you can find ’em online. Lots of places sellin’ ’em. Just gotta type it into that computer thingy. “Imari tea cup,” that’s what you type. Then you’ll see a whole bunch of ’em, all different kinds.
They say you can find ’em in them antique stores, too. I ain’t been to one of them in a while, but they got all sorts of old stuff in there. Might be worth a look if you’re really serious about findin’ an Imari tea cup.
They are made of ceramic, porcelain, and metal. I guess that makes them strong, but I still wouldn’t want to drop one. They look like they’d break real easy. And for that price, you wouldn’t want to be breakin’ any!
These Imari tea cup, they’re somethin’ else, ain’t they? Pretty to look at, but way too expensive for my blood. I’ll just keep admirin’ ’em from afar. And maybe one day, if I win the lottery, I’ll buy myself one. But until then, my old mug will do just fine. It’s got character, that old mug. Just like me!
